After the cool and beautiful Spring days that Adelaide experienced in the last two months, Summer pokes her head and says hello today. The maximum was around 33.7C at 3.21pm and it’s still around 30 at the moment even though it’s nearly 9pm. Even though I love cooler weather, I can still tolerate the heat today. I don’t like it as much when Adelaide gets really hot – like a week of 36C-38C or one or two days of 40+C – now that is HOT!
I left work a wee bit later and then while waiting for my bus, I made a detour to the KFC in Rundle Mall. No, I didn’t buy any fried chicken, even though I was really tempted! 😛 I wanted to buy myself a Chocolate Cornetto Krushers – which is basically a chocolate milkshake with some crushed Chocolate Cornetto cones. Yum-mo! It was especially refreshing because it was quite a warm evening!
When I arrived home, I decided to do a bit of some gardening to take advantage of the sunshine – it was still relatively bright at 7.40pm so I trimmed my grapevines to ensure good growth around my pergola and pruned some of my pittosporum branches. Afterwards, I gave the plants some drink – I don’t want to lose any of my trees this Summer! I lost many last Summer – including my precious Wollemi Pine. 🙁 It was nice to spend some time in the backyard this evening – the air was warm and heavy, and it was perfumed with the scent of my star jasmine trees that grow on the back wall – between my backyard and my neighbour’s property. Sublime.
I’m now relaxing in my study with a glass of cool Bickford’s Diet Lime Cordial mixed with mineral water, while serenaded by Chris Botti’s skillful trumpet playing in his 2001 album Night Sessions. Doubly sublime. I hope it can help my mind to relax and wind down – I spoke to two of my sisters today, discussing some events at home which I can’t share here at the moment. I can’t help worrying – but what else can I do other than pray, eh? “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28). If you want to pray along with me, that would be much appreciated! 🙂
Tomorrow is going to be another warm day – 33C with the minimum tonight only reaching 18C. The crickets are chirping away happily, undoubtedly enjoying the heat. Summer is truly here to stay …
