It has been raining almost non-stop in Adelaide in the past couple of days, complete with strong winds as well. It’s not soft drizzly shower either – it’s gusty rain that at times can be quite scary as well. We certainly need the water to freshen up the garden as well as to keep the soil from shrinking too much. Soil shrinkage is a major problem in Adelaide, causing houses to crack and I certainly have my share of hairline cracks around the house.
I planned to go to Harbourtown yesterday to do a bit of a look-see, but it was so cold, windy and rainy that I decided to stay home instead. Accompanied by some soulful french tunes and Indomie Mie Goreng, my evening was almost pleasant *laugh*. By 10pm, I had my shower and then a wee glass of Riga Black Balsam, a liqueur that I got as a gift when I was in Latvia in 2006. I mixed it with some soda water and a dash of elderflower concentrate. The drink was quite pleasant – bitter still, but very palatable. My stomach felt pretty funny, so that was why I thought about having some Black Balsam. Apparently it had some medicinal value as well 🙂 You should’ve seen me with my sarong, long-sleeved tshirt, and a pair of socks to keep me warm in bed. Just to complete my sleeping experience, I also put some eucalypt oil in my oil burner. Bliss. I got up feeling relatively refreshed at 8.45am after which I had two cups of coffee to kickstart my day. 🙂
Talking about the rain – in April alone, Adelaide has received 56.4mm of rain – pretty feeble compared to other parts of the world, but for us, it’s manna from heaven! 🙂 The backyard is looking better already! At the moment the sun is peering through the clouds, making the morning a wee bit cheerful. I won’t risk having wet laundry though, so I’m going to hang my clothes inside the house. In a moment, I’m going to clean up my fishtank, and then take my shower and get ready to head to church. It’s been quite a pleasant weekend – the rain makes it very ‘introspective’, which I very much enjoy.
I hope that you’re having a super weekend yourself! 🙂
