It’s the eighth of January already – the memories of Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations are fading; the moments are stored into little dark compartments in our brain’s grey cells. They may not ever resurface again or maybe you’ll remember tiny fragments of the day when you are older, because something significant happened.
I’m relaxing today after finishing my second cup of coffee, listening to Kings of Convenience’s first album, Quiet is the New Loud that was released in 2001. Kings of Convenience is a two-man band from Bergen, Norway – consisting of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe. I really love the group for their delicately harmonised, soothing music that’s almost accoustic. Their second album Riot on an Empty Street was released in 2004, but I still play it regularly. The songs invoke a sensation of a summer’s afternoon, lying down on a lush garden, with insects buzzing about and the day bathed in the sun’s golden glow. I wish more people would know about them, but on the other hand, I feel like a keeper of a valuable secret! An elite group! Hahaha. Their albums may not be easy to find outside Norway, but if you can get your hand on any of them, buy them! I got Versus – a CD containing remixed versions of the songs in their first album in the discount section of HMV in Singapore many years ago! I can’t wait for their next album – long overdue indeed!
Yesterday I went to the local nursery and got myself two Orange Jessamine (Murraya paniculata) plants to accompany the single Smokebush (Cotinus coggygria “Flame”) just outside the paved area. The plants would grow into medium-sized bush that will create an ‘outdoor room’ for the paved area, separating it from the backyard. The area is looking better already – it was a bit of a hard work digging for the two plants, because there were big stones buried in the backyard. I just need to get some agapanthus to plant as the border, and that’ll be it for now. With all the digging, planting, and skipping meals, no wonder I have lost about 4kgs since late last year! 🙂 When I had a haircut yesterday, my hairdresser was a bit concerned that I had lost some weight and that whether it was deliberate or not. Haha. 🙂
Nothing much to write on what’s happening in my life. I had a couple of comments regarding my last entry on Complementarity or Similarity?. They make me think and consider things from different angles, so for those who have given their opinion through J/BLØG, email or just through text messages – thank you.
So it’s one full week already since the New Year! I can’t wait for the companies to operate fully after the period of rest around the festive season, so I can find more opportunities advertised! I’m also looking forward to flying back to Indonesia on Monday next week to attend my parents’ golden wedding anniversary and just to catch up with family and friends.
