What a day, eh?

So it’s my birthday today, and even though I’m still not in a celebratory mood, I am thankful that I have been given a chance to live this far so far. A friend of mine here in Adelaide reminded me that I should be thankful that I could have another birthday, compared to those who were called home early, like my younger brother.

The day is much more memorable for the bloodbath at the stockmarket in the US after the downfall of Lehman Brothers in the US and the purchase of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America. How the mighty have fallen, eh? I’m sure that there are millions of jittery people all over the world now who have lost a lot of money brought by the subprime crisis and its aftermaths. I’m still in a strange frame of mind at the moment even though I am witnessing a lot of turmoil in the world of finance, and even though my career situation is still quite uncertain at the moment. I feel cocooned and secure for some reason! I’m in a happy place, without any alcohol or drugs included – “The joy of the Lord is my strength!“. 😀

I started my day with a breakfast that’s fit for kings – McDonald’s Sausage and Egg McMuffin with a hash brown and a Nudie Juice Mango Mash. I’m a happy chappie! 🙂 I’ve just had a birthday morning coffee with a workmate. I came back to my desk and found that my ex-boss had left me a chocolate cake from Cocolat. Oooh! I’m sure the rest of the day will be just fine!

Thank you for the birthday text messages and phone calls – my iPhone has been happily ding-dinging away all morning, telling me of incoming text messages. I know that I am blessed.

It’s just after 11pm and I’m about to take my evening shower and head to bed. I’ve had a great day even though I didn’t go out to celebrate my birthday or do any celebratory thing. I was going to keep my birthday a secret from my workmates, but because they saw the chocolate cake on my desk, they found out that it was my birthday. Busted! 😀 So, I did the proper thing – bought a box of warm cinnamon donuts, some biscuits, and some cheese and lavosh for afternoon tea! 🙂

The rest of the evening was pleasant but low-key: I spent it changing the water in my aquarium and watching ‘Find My Family’ on Channel Seven. Maybe I’ll do something special during the weekend. Hehe.
