If Papa were still alive, today would’ve been their 53rd wedding anniversary … They got married on 18 January 1959 in Bandung, Indonesia. Today is Mama’s first Wedding Anniversary after Papa’s death last year. I can only imagine her sadness and grief still.
I thought I’d repost the video that I made for their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2009 – I know I’ve done it in the past but I’m compelled to share the memories with you again. For those of you who do not speak Indonesian – here is their life story, prior to getting married:
Papa (Tan Tjeng Hoa) – Papa was born in city of Bandung on 23rd February 1937, the second child of Tan Siong Tjoen and Tjoa Tit Nio. The couple was blessed with three children: Tan Koey Lian (deceased), Papa (Tan Tjeng Hoa), and Tan Tjeng Liang (deceased). Papa had two half-siblings from Grandpa Tan Siong Tjoen’s first wife – called Jo Tjoan Nie – namely: Tan Tjeng Hoey (deceased) and Tan Koey Siok, also deceased. After the death of Grandpa’s death, Papa was raised by Grandma Tjoa Tit Nio and had to leave his study to help Grandma in her shop.
Mama (Kho Hok Nio) – On the 27th of July 1940, a baby was born as the third child of Kho Tian Sioe and Lauw Lian Nio in the village of Nanggewer, near the town of Bogor. Two of their previous children passed away in their childhood. The daughter is called Kho Hok Nio or Julianty Kodyat. Mama also has a younger brother named Kho Tjoan Liang. Mama grew up in Nanggewer and finished her study at Chung Hua School as a beautiful girl adorning the town of Bogor.
Happy Anniversary, Papa and Mama.
