I got up on Wednesday to discover that my email had been disabled and that my domain account suspended. There was very little explanation except for the reason that the suspension was caused by my ‘PHP script abuse’. For the non-techie readers, PHP scripts are some sort of commands that can be run from the server when the user invokes them. J/BLØG is essentially run on PHP scripts. I was frustrated and angry, as well as anxious as I really didn’t want to lose four years of blogging down the drain. After losing my photos in my harddisk, I certainly wouldn’t want to lose the experience and thoughts that I have documented since 2006!
Unfortunately having a hosting provider that is located in North America means that the time difference is working against you – I would think that they have 24-hour customer service and support team! So I practically had to wait for 24-hours before my frantic queries were answered. Rather than giving me an estimated time of completion, they left things hanging a bit which made me a bit obsessive-compulsive in checking any updates to my queries. One of the earlier technician who helped me had the guts to ‘close’ my service ticket even before the issue was resolved! 😡
The explanation that I received was that somebody got into my website and infected it with a PHP script that spammed other users – so I had to have the PHP access turned off for my website, and then I had to download my blog into my computer, install WordPress afresh, and then re-instate the access to the database that holds all of my blog entries. Pretty complicated stuff – but at least I learn a lot in the process. Friggin’ spammers!!! 😡 It’s great relying on the wisdom of fellow geeks out there though – by searching around for tips and advices, I manage to solve the issue well. 🙂
At least now I have got the website running again – it seems to work very well at the moment. I’ve changed my passwords so hopefully that would make future hacking attempts more difficult. It’s now 2:57am here in Adelaide and I’m knackered! I can sleep happily. 🙂
Have a great weekend everybody! I missed writing here and reading your comments as well! 🙂
